Someone opened fire on a group of Republicans playing a baseball game yesterday. And almost too fast for the left to have time to gloat and start pushing for gun control again (but let;s face it, nothing is that fast), it turned out that the shooter was a Bernie Sanders supporter who, according to his brother was very upset about Trump being president and “just tired of some of the politics going on”.
Hodgkinson injured five, but thankfully did not manage to kill any of his targets. The left owns this attack. Prominent right wingers have been warning since the presidential campaign last year that the extreme language used by mainstream media, politicians and celebrities would have violent consequences. They inspired a man to attack and try to kill people over their politics, and “Wir haben es nicht gewusst” is no excuse for them.
Here in The Netherlands we have seen the exact same thing with Pim Fortuyn, who was on his way to being elected Prime Minister when he was assassinated in May 2002 by a leftwing extremist after a months-long orchestrated campaign of hate against him and his politics by the mainstream media, mainstream politicians and other public figures. He was routinely likened to Hitler and Nazism, branded a racist, a fascist, he was called sub-human. All the same tricks the left still uses today to silence the voices they do not want to hear. The Dutch left is using them today against Wilders and against newcomer Thierry Baudet. The American left is using them against Trump and the GOP.
The left knows what their tactics lead to; those who deny that are either idiots or liars. They willingly and knowingly do this, but they will never stop and they will get more people killed.
Twitter users point out that just last week, Bernie Sanders was in Chicago who, according to CNN called on his supporters to “Take down Trump”. And now, a man from Illinois shoots Repulican Congressman Steve Scalise.
Ten days ago, Derek Hunter wrote for Townhall: The Left Won’t Rest Until Someone Gets Killed. He points out that since Trump was elected President:
Over-the-top rhetoric is no longer the domain of the fringe; it’s the currency of the mainstream media. Worse, it’s turned from heated political disagreement to paranoia and pure hatred, and it’s going to get someone killed.
He mentions a striking example of the left’s double standard on “over-the-top rhetoric” quoting an article from Huffington Post from 2011 (following the assassination attempt on Democrat then-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords):
Today we have seen the results of this rhetoric. Those with a megaphone, whether provided by public office or a media outlet, have responsibilities. They cannot avoid the consequences of their blatant efforts to inflame, anger, and outrage. We all know that there are unstable and potentially dangerous people among us. To repeatedly appeal to their basest instincts is to invite and welcome their predictable violence.
But in June 2016 the run an article called Sorry Liberals, A Violent Response To Trump Is As Logical As Any in which writer Jesse Benn defends “violent resistance” against then-candidate Donald Trump and praises the effectiveness of riots to achieve political change.
Liberal hypocrisy at its finest. And as long as the left dominates the mainstream, this will not change. More people will get hurt. And they will continue to justify it.
