Parents fined for dodging child’s school trip to mosque – while school-day climate marches are encouraged

A German couple refused to let their son attend a planned school outing to a mosque, and they are being fined 50 euros for the boy skipping school (attending school is mandatory in many European countries, and home schooling is often difficult if possible at all). The boys parents are right-wing activists with Pax Europa, while the mosque reportedly has ties to the radical Turkish Milli Görüs movement.

At the same time, schools are facilitating the regular skipping of school days to attend climate change marches, with some schools even making protest attendance mandatory – and at least one principal admitting on camera that he thinks it’s important to support his pupils’ political engagement, but would not feel the same if they would want to protest immigration.
