Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte stumbles and lies his way through a debate about the Dutch referendum on the EU’s Ukraine treaty. The referendum result was a resounding “No” against association with the Ukraine, against all expectations from the establishment, and in spite of a massive campaign by almost all establishment political parties and all establishment media outlets. The parallels with Brexit are striking. And Brexit was invoked as an excuse by Rutte to not deal with the referendum outcome right away. Clearly, the Dutch government was planning on ignoring the referendum result, and neither they nor Brussels wanted the British public to see what democracy is worth to the EU so shortly before the Brexit vote.
Update: the establishment managed to keep stalling until February 21st 2017, but the ratification of the EU treaty with the Ukraine has been officially confirmed. The voice of the people has been ignored, once again.
